Film was heavily hyped as spectacular and brutal fetish-thriller, announced on homepage and youtube.
Now it's completed.
Film is a surprise.
And a disappointment.
JUSTIFY is divided in two halfs.
It starts great. It's not cheaply done, it's a real independent film with characters and very good actors.
Director Insung Hwang is good in writing realistic dialogues and establishing scenes with atmosphere, also the music is well chosen.
Story centers on a woman who visits a female shrink. Her problem is her father...
Later she meets an artist and his dominatrix-friend.
The woman has a hidden agenda and seems to seek revenge, details for a long time unclear for the audience, creating tension. There's also a certain tension when you remember the latex-cover and there are only a few fetishistic scenes in the first half. Seems you have to wait for the second half.
The first part of JUSTIFY is really good. And you are curious how the film will go on. You think the directing is so well, you may trust the guidance of this young director.
Unfortunately the second half is totally different. Insung Hwang is good as a director, he is not as a storyteller. The turning point of quality is the second meeting of the main character totally clad in black latex surprising the dominatrix. The story shouldn't be revealed here.
Just this: the wole story gets flat and unconvincing, the action is B-movie-style, low budget like 1000 other films in your videostore at the corner. Sexiness? Only short fetish scenes, not focussing on erotic tension, only used for the story. Not worth a look. The worst: the portrayal of the subculture is extremely negative: "Take care - you might get killed!"
The sensitivity of the first part - gone. Fetish images just used to get your attention.
Although one of the worst, negative films about S&M the producers added a fetish-dance at the end - why?
